"If you want someone who captures not just how your day looked but how it felt, you couldn't choose better."

- Ilona + Mitch

You should spend your wedding day completely wrapped up in it. The people, the feeling, the joy.

Your photos should let you live it all over again.

I've Made This Simple For You

I do things a little differently. Everything you need to feel confident about your choice is right here. No separate guides, no inquiry forms just to see pricing. See what your wedding day experience could look like, understand what you'll invest, check if your date is open, and book a call when you're ready. All that's left after that is a discovery call to make sure we’re the right fit for each other.

Hi, I'm Shawn

an Ottawa wedding photographer for couples who want to enjoy themselves

You've probably come across a lot of talk about editorial vs. documentary wedding photography. Which style is right for you. What it all means.

Here's where I land: the labels don't matter. The moment does.

I'm not here to fit your day into a category. I'm here to pay attention. To you, to the people around you, to whatever's actually happening. I give direction when it helps and step back when something real needs space. The result is a gallery that looks and feels like your wedding. The portraits, the crowd, the quiet moments between the people who love you most.

Before Photography

Before photography became my full-time work, I spent years as a singer-songwriter - performing across Europe, South America, New Zealand, and Canada. Those years taught me how to read a room, connect with strangers authentically, and bring calm confidence to high-pressure moments.

Outside of weddings

I spend my time writing music and spending quality time with the people I love. My fiancée Claire and I have built a life around presence and genuine connection - active mornings, quiet evenings, long conversations, time in nature and time with friends and family. The same values you're bringing to your wedding day are ones I live by: that life is meant to be enjoyed, and the best photos prove that it was.

Photography, for me, isn't just about capturing what happened. It's about preserving what it meant.

"Not only was each photo he took a piece of art, but Shawn himself is so warm and professional."

"We could tell he genuinely cared and wanted to know about all our thoughts, feelings and ideas. Everyone at our wedding (ourselves included) can’t stop gushing about how comfortable he made us all feel in front of the camera. We couldn’t imagine a better day without him, and definitely couldn’t imagine having anyone else capture the memories for us."

What Your Experience Looks Like

No. 01

Your community is central to the story

Your wedding is about gathering the people you love and your gallery should reflect that. I start by understanding who matters to you, so your gallery reflects you and the people who made you who you are. Your closest friends, your parents, the siblings who flew in from across the country - these moments aren't a bonus. They're central to the story.

"Everyone Shawn interacted with mentioned how much of a welcoming and safe presence he has"

Calm, responsive energy throughout your day

Calm presence isn't just about being unobtrusive - it's about being responsive. I'm reading your energy in real time, creating space when you need it and showing up with support when you don't. By the time your wedding day arrives, I already know your rhythms. You won't feel managed. You'll feel supported.

"Shawn has this calming presence which made me slow down and be in the moment."

Photography that fits your day, not the other way around

Your day has a rhythm - and your photography should follow it, not fight it. Whether you want efficient portraits that keep you close to your guests, or a longer golden hour away from the reception, I help you design a timeline where photography enhances your day instead of competing with it. You're never sacrificing time with your people for production value you didn't ask for.

"Shawn made us feel like we could truly be ourselves and have our day captured authentically without feeling like our wedding was a photoshoot."

- Kim + Jarom

Engagement Session

Authentically capturing just the two of you, being yourselves

An engagement session is your chance to practice being in the couple spotlight before your wedding day. If the idea of being the center of attention all day feels overwhelming, this is your warm-up. Just the two of you, no audience, no performance. You'll discover that being photographed together doesn't have to feel staged or exhausting.

Here's what I've noticed: couples who felt nervous about being in the spotlight tell me the engagement session changed everything. They realized they could be natural and comfortable being the center of focus. That confidence carries straight into their wedding day.

Giving Back

Through Wedding Photography

I’m proud to share that 5% of every wedding photography booking will be donated to The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre.

As a strong advocate for therapy and accessible mental health services, I’m committed to supporting this important cause. This contribution will help more people in our community gain access to the mental health care they need, making a difference through each wedding I have the privilege to photograph.

Frequently Asked Questions

01. What if we don't want to be the center of attention all day?

That’s no problem. Most of my couples say some version of this. The discomfort with being in the spotlight is completely normal, and it's something I actively work to minimize. If you want extra practice with the "couple spotlight" dynamic before your wedding, the engagement session is perfect for that. Just the two of you, no audience, low stakes. You'll discover it doesn't have to feel performative.

How do you handle that?

02. We don't want to spend all day doing photos. How do you handle that?

02. We don't want to spend all day doing photos.

I completely understand, and honestly, that's exactly how I prefer to work. Portrait time can be as efficient as 20 minutes when you'd rather be celebrating with your guests. The rest of the day is documentary coverage, so you're never "doing photos" - you're just being present while I document naturally.

During our timeline planning call, we'll talk through your priorities. Some couples love a longer golden hour portrait session. Others want to maximize guest time and prefer quick, efficient portraits. There's no right answer - just what feels right for you.

What I won't do is insist on an hour-long portrait session just to get "one more shot" when you'd rather be celebrating.

03. What if our timeline gets off track?

Don’t worry, timeline shifts happen, and we’ll handle it together. I'll adapt the plan, communicate clearly about what we can adjust, and make sure you never feel rushed or stressed. We'll build buffer time into your timeline from the start, which naturally absorbs most delays without anyone noticing.

My job is to stay calm and flexible so you can stay present. If things shift, we pivot smoothly and keep you focused on what matters - being with your people, not worrying about the schedule

And if your celebration runs longer than expected, I’ll never leave you hanging. Extended coverage is always available on the day of your wedding.

04. What is your approach to retouching?

In my editing process, the goal is to create photos that feel true to life and capture the natural essence of your special day. I want you to look at your images and relive those authentic heartfelt moments for generations. However, if there’s a stain, blemish, or anything that wouldn’t naturally be present two weeks after the wedding, it will happily be removed.

05. What happens if it rains?

I have plenty of experience capturing beautiful outdoor weddings in Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal - when it comes to rain, we will always discuss a plan during your timeline meeting closer to your wedding date. But sometimes it's best to embrace it! Rain can infuse your photos with incredible energy and create lasting memories of a joyful celebration. Rest assured, if you’re out in the rain, I will be right there with you.

06. Can we ask for specific shots?

I am here to help you bring your vision to life! However, a strict shot list can sometimes hinder creativity and disrupt the natural flow of your day, which is crucial for beautiful wedding photography.

Everything in moderation of course. If there's a specific shot you'd like to recreate that won't interrupt the day's events, I'm more than happy to accommodate.

07. Do you work with LGBTQ+ couples?

Of course! No matter how you identify and regardless of how you define your relationship, I'd love to be a part of your wedding day. Love is love and I'm 100% here for it!

08. How many photos will I receive?

The number of photos varies depending on how many hours we shoot and how your wedding day is structured - but for a 10-hour wedding, the average amount has been 500 photos.

09. Do you travel for Weddings?

Yes I do! Although Ottawa is my home base, I also capture weddings in Montreal, Toronto and Muskoka. There is a $950 fee for travel from 200 to 500km from Ottawa. For travel +500KM from Ottawa, a custom travel quote will be made.

10. What if I have to cancel or move my booking?

Life is complicated and the unexpected is to be expected. The 30% deposit is non refundable as I will be turning away all other bookings for your wedding date. I hope you understand that deposit is insurance for my business to stay afloat in the event of a cancellation.

Your Next Step

Your wedding is one of the most meaningful days of your life. If you want a photographer who treats it that way, I'd love to hear from you
